Julie Beckett is the parent of Katie Beckett, a young lady that was the recipient of the very first Medicaid Home and Community Based waiver, which was granted by the Secretary of Health and Human Services in 1981. In the 30 plus years since, the waiver has had a profound impact on individuals with disabilities in the US, enabling them to remain in their homes and receive services while living in the community. Currently, there are over a million people receiving services under such waivers. Sadly, Katie Beckett passed away on May 18, 2012. Nonetheless, Julie continues to carry on with her advocacy in Katie’s memory.
Information about Medicaid, Medicaid Waivers, Health Insurance from the state and national perspectives will be provided.
